3 window washers left suspended mid-air after scaffolding collapse (video)
Three window washers were left suspended in mid-air after their scaffolding unit collapsed in downtown Cincinnati.
It happened around 10:40 a.m. Thursday along the façade of a building near the intersection of Fourth and Elm streets.
According to fire Chief Roy Winston, all three men are alert and safe, rescued by firefighters who responded.
The three men were found suspended in the air, dangling over the city street and still attached to their safety harnesses, Winston said.
One man was suspended near the ninth floor, and the other two were suspended near the eighth floor.
“It was an intensive effort. We were able to bring in three ladder companies to bring in support," Winston said.
All three men were pulled in by firefighters through the windows of the building.
“Their safety equipment saved their lives. It speaks volumes that there are not injuries,” added Tom Lakamp, operations chief.
The workers are being evaluated by medics but were largely unharmed.
The scaffolding remains dangling from the building. Crews are currently working to dismantle and remove it.
